Yarra Yering Pinot Noir 2019
Yarra Yering Pinot Noir 2019
Unveiling luscious plums and ripe black cherries, with intricate layers of spice and seamlessly integrated oak. The palate showcases precision and finesse, with velvety tannins akin to raw silk and a refreshing acidity that extends the finish, leaving a lasting impression.
This wine originates from Pinot Noir vines planted at Yarra Yering, boasting some of the Yarra Valley's oldest specimens. Planted in 1969 with four clones, the vineyard was expanded in 1981 and 1984. Grapes were hand-picked, chilled overnight, and sorted before gentle destemming into small fermenters. Some whole bunches were included for subtle stalk structure and enhanced fruit profile. The ferment was managed with gentle hand plunging twice daily, contributing to a soft fruit palate, followed by gentle pressing.
After 10 months in French barrels (30% new, balance older oak), the wine exhibits a lilac-perfumed nose, cherry fruits, and a hint of aniseed spice. On the palate, black cherry dominates with a touch of Chinese five spice. It offers a silky elegance and defined tannin structure from both grape and oak, presenting a medium-bodied yet powerful style. This Pinot Noir promises rewards with cellaring.
