Alkimi Wines Heahcote Greanche 2020
Alkimi Wines Heahcote Greanche 2020
This fragrant interpretation of Grenache resembles Pinot Noir in color, showcasing red cherry and spice aromas and flavors with a sinewy mouthfeel. However, the musk and confection notes on the mid-palate are distinctly Grenache. It's a lighter expression of the grape, perfect for enjoying in warmer weather.
The name is inspired by the phonetic spelling of "alchemy," referencing the medieval art of transforming base metals into gold—fitting for owner and winemaker Stuart Dudine, whose wine journey has its mysteries. He gained experience working with renowned winemakers like Emmerich Knoll in Austria and Stéphane Ogier at Château Mont-Redon in France. His passion for the Rhône Valley developed during his time at Henschke, focusing on Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. Since 2012, he's been based in the Yarra Valley, working with Yarra Yering, Oakridge, and Mac Forbes, and currently makes wines for Kellybrook. His mission is to identify vineyard parcels that consistently thrive in their specific soils throughout the seasons.
