Aphelion Wait Grenache 2021

This wine hails from the old bush vine block on the Wait Vineyard, situated in Blewitt Springs. Renowned for its intricate and multifaceted character, it offers a captivating array of flavors, including blood orange infused with kirsch, complemented by hints of wood smoke and clove. Reminiscent of a sophisticated Sicilian-accented negroni, it balances the delicate qualities of pinot with the boldness of nebbiolo, while providing a sturdy structural framework that leads to a long and exhilarating finish. However, subtle notes of mescal and dill pickle suggest that a touch more ripeness could enhance its already impressive profile.

Winemaker Rob Mack and co-founder Louise Rhodes Mack bring impressive credentials to Aphelion. Rob's academic achievements include two degrees in accounting and management, followed by a wine science degree from CSU in '16, with ongoing studies toward his MW certification. Prior to founding Aphelion, Rob excelled in direct marketing as a wine buyer and planner for Laithwaites Wine People. He later served as production manager for Direct Wines in McLaren Vale, gaining valuable experience at five wineries, four of which were in McLaren Vale. Rob's talent was recognized when he was named Young Gun of Wine in '18, and Aphelion was honored as Best Small Producer at the McLaren Vale Wine Show in '19.
