Torbreck Vintners The Pict Mataro 2010
Torbreck Vintners The Pict Mataro 2010
This bold single-vineyard Mataro captures the wild, earthy aromas typical of the Bandol region in France. The nose is dominated by fresh soil, tree bark, cassis, and leather, with evolving hints of spice, chocolate, and dried meats as it opens up. The palate is rich and dense, with a rustic core of earth, tar, and black olive, framed by the wine’s mineral-driven tannins. While it’s well-balanced in its youth, The Pict has the structure and potential to age and evolve beautifully over many years.
Torbreck Vintners had already established itself as one of Australia’s top red wine producers when, in 2013, wealthy Californian entrepreneur and vintner Peter Kight (owner of Quivira Vineyards) took full ownership of the company. In 2016, skilled winemaker Ian Hongell became part of the team. The winery focuses on Shiraz and other Rhône varieties, with standout wines like The Laird, RunRig, The Factor, and Descendant. All wines are unfined and unfiltered.
