MMAD Vineyard Blewitt Springs Chenin Blanc 2023

MMAD Vineyard Blewitt Springs Chenin Blanc 2023
In early 2021, MMAD Vineyard was acquired by a group of four industry experts: winemakers Martin Shaw and Adam Wadewitz, along with Masters of Wine Michael Hill-Smith and David LeMire. The name "MMAD" is derived from the initials of their first names. MMAD wines are crafted to showcase the distinctive terroir of Blewitt Springs and the character of its rare, old vines.
MMAD Vineyard has Grenache that was all planted in 1939, as well as Shiraz and Chenin Blanc, the oldest of which were planted in 1941 and 1964 respectively.Â
Beautiful aromas of fresh apple, nectarine, and zesty lemon that stand out. The wine has a light floral scent with hints of sea breeze. On the palate, it has a roasted almond note and a touch of salty minerality, with a clean and refreshing finish.
Winemaker Notes:
A late and cool growing season gave us smaller, more flavourful bunches and lifted aromatics. There is a richness and density of fruit on the mid-palate that reflects another year of our farming the vineyard, and lower yields. We are starting to uncover the full potential of these old vines. A mix of crushed and whole bunch pressed fruit was fermented in both concrete and large format old oak bring texture to the wine. The textured palate is balanced with a mineral, saline edge and long, pithy finish. It Has the concentration and structure to develop fine tertiary characters in bottle over the next 15 years. MMAD
