Bondar Sagrantino 2023

Bondar Sagrantino 2023
Located on Chalk Hill Road in McLaren Vale, the Rayner Vineyard is Bondar's home and heartland. Acquired in 2014, this historic site spans the boundary between the Blewitt Springs and Seaview sub-regions. With vine plantings dating back to the 1950s, the vineyard is renowned for its old vine Shiraz and Grenache, producing wines of fragrance, finesse, and savoury character.
The eastern sandhill section, part of the Pirramimma sandstone formation, yields particularly elegant, aromatic Shiraz, perfectly aligned with Bondar’s winemaking philosophy. Since taking ownership, Bondar has introduced new plantings of close-planted Counoise, bush vine Grenache and Mataro, as well as Carignan, Cinsault, Touriga Nacional and Sagrantino.
Bondar farms organically where possible and is proudly part of both the Sustainable Winegrowing Australia program and the EcoVineyards project, which focuses on restoring native vegetation and biodiversity across vineyard land.
Tasting Notes
"From our small block of Sagrantino on the Rayner Vineyard. An ancient variety with its origins in Central Italy, Sagrantino was nearing extinction in the 1970’s before being rescued, and has now found a new home here in McLaren Vale. Our rendition of Sagrantino is lifted and bright, while still showing the hallmark tannin and structure the variety is famous for." Bondar Wines
