Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2023

Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2023
Grosset is a distinguished winery located in Auburn, at the southern tip of the Clare Valley, South Australia. Established in 1981 by Jeffrey Grosset, the winery is renowned for producing exceptional Riesling and Cabernet blend wines that authentically reflect the region's unique terroir. They have four estate-owned, certified organic and biodynamic (ACO) vineyards and producing wines that consistently receive high praise from critics and wine enthusiasts alike.
Grosset Polish Hill Riesling is crafted from our eight-hectare, estate-owned vineyard in the Clare Valley, certified A-Grade Organic and Biodynamic (ACO). Planted by Grosset in 1996, this gently sloping site comprises silt and shallow shale over a thin layer of clay and gravel, resting on a base of ancient blue slate estimated to be around 500 million years old.
This is a true ‘hard rock’ site, where the vines must work hard to extract nutrients from the soil. As a result, yields are low, with small bunches and berries that produce intensely concentrated, long-lasting flavours. The vineyard powerfully illustrates how ancient rock formations can shape a wine’s character, Polish Hill is a particularly striking example.
Tasting Notes
"An outstanding release of this vaunted wine. It's intense, it's racy, it's complex and nuanced in its fruit, spice, mineral and subtle savoury elements, all of it woven into an extremely persistent and poised textural experience. There's stacks of flavour in all this, yet held within a tensile thrust of raciness and faint chalky pucker. And long, very long. One for the ages here." 96 Points - Halliday Wine Companion, Mike Bennie (2023).
