Grosset Nereus Shiraz-Nero d'Avola 2021

Grosset Nereus Shiraz-Nero d'Avola 2021

Grosset Nereus Shiraz-Nero d'Avola 2021

Grosset Nereus draws inspiration from the traditional Sicilian blend of Shiraz and Nero d'Avola, a rarity in Australia. After five vintages, the 2021 release has solidified the distinctive 'Nereus style'. Initially conceived as a robust Shiraz with added brightness and linear character from the Nero d'Avola, this vintage surprises with its succulence, silkiness, and medium-bodied drinkability. The wine exhibits briary aromatics, defining its profile, while flavors of succulent blackberry bramble and a smooth, lingering finish characterize the palate. Sourced from Grosset Rockwood Vineyard in the Clare Valley, certified A-Grade Organic and Biodynamic, the wine is aged in French oak barriques (45% new) for 18 months.

Jeffrey Grosset is widely acclaimed as Australia's top riesling producer, both domestically and internationally. However, his expertise extends beyond riesling, encompassing chardonnay and pinot noir from the Adelaide Hills, as well as Gaia, a Bordeaux blend from the Clare Valley, and Apiana Fiano and Nereus, a shiraz-based wine with a hint of nero d'Avola. Despite his unassuming demeanor, Jeffrey possesses a determined resolve. Notably, Grosset's four estate-owned vineyards in the Clare Valley are certified organic and biodynamic
