Langmeil 1843 Freedom Shiraz 2021
Langmeil 1843 Freedom Shiraz 2021
This Shiraz, sourced from a venerable 177-year-old vineyard at the Langmeil estate in Tanunda, spent 26 months aging in French oak. It's a remarkable release from the robust 2021 vintage. The wine boasts a deep color and impressive depth, with a concentration of fruit, texture, and balance. It offers resonant flavors of blackberry and dark plum, layered with spices, licorice, dark chocolate, roasted meats, and earthy notes. On the palate, it flows beautifully, exhibiting richness and elegance with a powerful undertone, finely integrated tannins, and a finish marked by great persistence. It's a solid choice for aging in the cellar.
Langmeil Winery, under the stewardship of the Lindner family, is renowned for housing possibly the world's oldest surviving shiraz vineyard, The Freedom 1843. Situated on a historically significant site that once served as a vital trading post, it also includes the Orphan Bank Vineyard. Originally planted with shiraz vines in the 1860s, these vines were relocated from Tanunda to the banks of the North Para River in 2006 after extensive renovation of the area.
