Torbreck Vintners Hillside Vineyard Grenache 2021

Torbreck is a renowned Barossa Valley winery celebrated for its bold, expressive red wines rooted in Rhône varietals, especially Shiraz, Grenache, and Mataro. Known for its rich, full-bodied style, Torbreck crafts wines that blend power with finesse, often from ancient, dry-grown vines. With iconic labels like The Laird and RunRig, Torbreck emphasizes minimal intervention and traditional techniques to showcase the depth and character of Barossa’s old-vine heritage.

This exceptional single vineyard Grenache comes from the most southerly owned Torbreck vineyard in the Barossa Valley, the Hillside vineyard. Located just north of the township of Lyndoch on the gentle westerly facing high slopes, this historic property was one of the very first settled in the 1850's. Acquired by Torbreck in 2002 its ancient buildings and vineyards are being brought slowly back to life.

Tasting Notes

"Sourced from the 1949-planted Hillside vineyard in Lyndoch; partial whole bunches, 18 months in a 2400L French oak foudre. Mid-crimson with characters of red cherry, red plum and white peach with a touch of red apple skin. Hints of five-spice, gingerbread, cola, red licorice, redcurrant jelly, earth and pressed citrus blossom. Some nice detail and space on the palate with fine, pithy tannin grip, a bright mineral cadence and a touch of morello cherry on the savoury exit." 95 Points - Halliday Wine Companion, Dave Brookes (2024).
