Yarra Yering Merlot 2019
Yarra Yering Merlot 2019
Yarra Yering is one of the Yarra Valley’s most iconic and historic wineries, established in 1969 by Dr. Bailey Carrodus, a pioneer who helped revive winemaking in the region. Known for its elegant, age-worthy wines, Yarra Yering quickly earned a reputation for excellence, with its first commercial vintage released in 1973.
Since 2013 the winery is led by acclaimed winemaker Sarah Crowe, whose focus on site expression and sustainable practices has earned widespread recognition, including multiple Winemaker of the Year awards. Her second ‘Winemaker of the Year” accolade was in 2021, presented by Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine. The same year Yarra Yering won the 2022 James Halliday Winery of the Year & Wine of The Year, the first time a winery has ever won 2 major accolades in the one year.
Tasting Note
"Merlot doesn’t often appear as a YY varietal bottling – the last was in 2012. While somewhat closed, this is starting to reveal itself as a wine of note. Raspberries and blackcurrants doused with cocoa and a vibrancy throughout. There's a plushness across the palate, with woodsy spices and a slight green cardamom taste that's unusual but appealing." 93 Points - Halliday Wine Companion, Jane Faulkner (2021).
