Sailor Seeks Horse Dijon Clone Pinot Noir 2023

Tucked away in Tasmania’s Huon Valley, this small vineyard ranks among the southernmost in Australia. Owned and operated by Paul and Gilli Lipscombe, both highly experienced in viticulture and winemaking and it reflects their passion and expertise. Their impressive résumé includes a Jimmy Watson Trophy win for their work at Home Hill, where they’ve been crafting wines in recent years.

While searching for the perfect site to create Australia’s finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. That quest led them to this north-facing vineyard, ideally positioned to capture sunlight while being protected from the chilly south-westerly winds.

Tasting Notes

"Wild ferment, clones 114, 777, 115, destemmed, 12 months in barrel (11% new). Finely honed redcurrant and raspberry aromas here with a wash of cranberry for high tones. It smells delicate and filigreed with hints of Medina spice, sous bois, fennel gratin, cherry clafoutis, drying meadow flowers, poached rhubarb and earth. More of the same on the palate, savoury and spacious with fine detail to its form and a lovely briny cadence that pushes the wine forward. Jeez, it's pretty darn good." 96 Points - Halliday Wine Companion, Dave Brookes (2025).
