Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2017

Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2017
Founded in 1844 in South Australia, Penfolds is one of the world’s most iconic and celebrated wine producers. Blending tradition with innovation, Penfolds has crafted some of the most collectible and distinguished wines.
Often referred as the "Baby Grange," Penfolds Bin 389 earned its nickname partly because it is matured in the same barrels previously used for Grange. First crafted in 1960 by the iconic Max Schubert, Bin 389 played a key role in establishing Penfolds' reputation among red wine enthusiasts. By blending the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz, it delivers a classic expression of balance between fruit and oak, showcasing the generous mid-palate that has become a Penfolds hallmark.
The blend is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Shiraz, matured for 12 months in American oak hogsheads (29% new, 50% 1-y.o., 21% 2-y.o.).
Winemaker Notes
Full and rich. A custom-fitted generous mid-palate – mandated for this marque. Flavours of a platter of charcuterie meats, pastrami dominating. Also vying for taste and textural attention – pomegranate, cranberry, Madagascan vanilla pod, liquorice straps. This wine’s youthful profile tempered by softened and even tannins – from start to finish. And the judicious use of new oak. Penfolds
