Mount Pleasant 1946 Vines Lovedale Semillon 2018
Mount Pleasant 1946 Vines Lovedale Semillon 2018
Mount Pleasant has played a key role in the history of Modern Australian winemaking. The winery was established in 1921 by the legendary winemaker Maurice O’Shea.
Planted by Maurice O’Shea in 1946, the Lovedale site is a true viticultural marvel. Having been considered completely inhospitable for growing vines, O’Shea recognised this section of sandy ancient sea-bed for its true potential. He saw its suitability for growing exceptional ‘Chablis-style’ wines. Today Lovedale produces some of the most expressive and elegant Semillon in the world.
Tasting Notes
"This iconic semillon is made from block LO-07 of the Lovedale Vineyard, planted on a sandy, ancient seabed in '46 by Maurice O'Shea. Like all 2018s, the wine is boldly flavoured and generous in proportion, with a pillowy mid-palate bursting with fresh pear, lime curd and a touch of smoked almond. As the wine will only expand with time, I would enjoy it now with its lovely mix of richness and freshness." 95 points - Halliday Wine Companion, Toni Paterson (2024).
