Yalumba The Octavius Museum Release Shiraz 2015

Yalumba The Octavius Museum Release Shiraz 2015
Yalumba is Australia's oldest family-owned winery, established in 1849 by British brewer Samuel Smith in Angaston, Barossa Valley. The name "Yalumba" is derived from an Indigenous Australian word meaning "all the land around," reflecting the winery's deep connection to its surroundings. Over six generations, Yalumba has remained independent, with a commitment to producing wines that showcase the best of the Barossa.
A flagship Shiraz born of treasured, old vines dating back to 1854, these are some of the oldest Shiraz plantings in the world. Matured in Yalumba coopered oak octaves; the inspiration behind the name of this fine, Barossa wine.
With an average vine age of 97 years, 61% of this Shiraz is sourced from Eden Valley and 39% from Barossa Valley. Matured for 22 months in 21% new Yalumba-coopered French and American oak octaves, balance in older French barriques, hogsheads and American octaves. The Eden Valley Shiraz provides the exotic aromatics and seamless palate structure, while the Barossa Valley Shiraz provides richness, density and concentration.
Tasting Notes
"Around 60% Eden Valley fruit in this one. We are indeed lucky to get these museum releases from Yalumba and this one is singing with creamy-edged blackberry, plum and black cherry fruits in fine form. Hints of mixed spice, roast meats, leather, tobacco, gentle cedar and earth. The wine is showing its worth with a beautiful, graceful fruit weight and flow on the palate. The oak has reclined back into the fruit and it's looking glorious. Lovely" 96 Points - Halliday Winer Companion, Dave Brookes (2025).
