The 2019 vintage of Penfolds' iconic Grange presents a slightly more subdued profile compared to previous releases. With a blend of 97% Shiraz and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, and maturation in new American oak for 19 months, this rendition offers a more approachable experience with less of the youthful formic and VA characteristics. Deep crimson in color, it exudes classic aromas of black berry fruits, plum compote, and black cherry, accompanied by hints of baking spices, Calvados, espresso grounds, black olive tapenade, roasting meats, creamy oak, purple flowers, and earth. The wine is weighty and concentrated, showcasing Grange's trademark density of fruit and tannin, with a persistent, texturally rich, and long finish. While it promises excellent cellar potential, it may reach its drinking peak earlier than expected.
