Penfolds Bin 798 RWT Shiraz 2007
Penfolds Bin 798 RWT Shiraz 2007
Founded in 1844 in South Australia, Penfolds is one of the world’s most iconic and celebrated wine producers. Blending tradition with innovation, Penfolds has crafted some of the most collectible and distinguished wines.
RWT Barossa Valley Shiraz offers a clear alternative to the multi-regional sourcing and American oak maturation that are typical of Grange. Instead, it showcases Barossa Valley Shiraz from a single region, matured solely in French oak. The name RWT stands for ‘Red Winemaking Trial’, the internal project name when it began in 1995. No longer a trial, RWT Shiraz was officially released in May 2000 with the 1997 vintage.
Its style is rich and generous, in contrast to the more powerful and bold nature of Grange. RWT is made using fruit selected mainly for its aromatic qualities and smooth texture. This wine was matured for 13 months in 71% new and 29% one-year-old French oak hogsheads.
Tasting Notes
"Firm, lively & vibrant. Cola and a flavoursensation not dissimilar to a generous
longitudinal slice of Blackforest cake, repletewith fruits. Tight, finely-grained harmonious oak and lacy, mouth-coating tannins induce a multidimensional 3D palate, tempered by crisp acidity. Awash with flavour, depth & extract. The essence of Barossa Valley Shiraz... oh, and balanced! Convincing ... and out of 2007." Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker
