Henschke Julius Riesling 2000

Henschke is one of Australia’s oldest family-owned wineries, has been crafting wine for over 150 years in the Eden Valley region of the Barossa. Founded in 1868, the winery is deeply committed to a fully integrated approach between vineyard and winery, reflecting six generations of family tradition in grapegrowing and winemaking across the Eden Valley, Barossa Valley, and Adelaide Hills.

Cyril Henschke, a fourth-generation winemaker, established Henschke’s reputation for premium Eden Valley Riesling in 1961. The region’s ideal ripening conditions produce wines with remarkable ageing potential. The vineyard sits on sandy loam over gravel, bedrock, and clay. Since 1992, this Riesling has paid tribute to Albert Julius Henschke (1888–1955), a renowned artist best known for his angel sculptures at Gnadenberg Cemetery and the National War Memorial in Adelaide.

Lifted aromas of preserved lemon, and beeswax, layered with hints of toast, lanolin, and minerality with subtle floral notes persist in the background. The 2000 Henschke Julius Riesling is a testament to the aging potential of Eden Valley Rieslings. Its complexity and balance make it a remarkable example of Australian Riesling.
