The seamless flow of pure, velvety fruit in this wine is simply astounding. It's lush yet perfectly balanced from start to finish. Flavors of macerated satsuma plum, black cherry, and boysenberry are complemented by hints of Chinese five-spice, purple flowers, licorice, clove, and subtle notes of tobacco leaf and graphite. Despite its depth and power, the wine maintains remarkable freshness and balance. The fine and dynamic tannin structure adds both structure and elegance to the wine, leading to a long and graceful finish.
Our 'Hors Choix', meaning 'Super Choice', is sourced from the Hoffmann family's two oldest plots: one planted in 1927 (ER-27) and the other between 1888 and 1912 (DW-OLD). After enduring a 78-week elevage, these 22 Burgundian Pièces were carefully assembled and bottled in spring 2022. The bottling process involved no filtration, fining, or sparging, and all transfers were completed via gravity prior to bottling.
This wine can be enjoyed now or cellared for as long as desired, benefiting from decanting and continuing to evolve over several days if kept in cool conditions. Yields ranged between 26 and 39 hectoliters per hectare, resulting in 6275 bottles filled.
