Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz 2019

Yarra Yering is one of the Yarra Valley’s most iconic and historic wineries, established in 1969 by Dr. Bailey Carrodus, a pioneer who helped revive winemaking in the region. Known for its elegant, age-worthy wines, Yarra Yering quickly earned a reputation for excellence, with its first commercial vintage released in 1973.

Since 2013 the winery is led by acclaimed winemaker Sarah Crowe, whose focus on site expression and sustainable practices has earned widespread recognition, including multiple Winemaker of the Year awards. Her second ‘Winemaker of the Year” accolade was in 2021, presented by Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine. The same year Yarra Yering won the 2022 James Halliday Winery of the Year & Wine of The Year, the first time a winery has ever won 2 major accolades in the one year.

Tasting Notes

"Fruit from a single block of shiraz planted in 1973, 80/20% whole berries/bunches fermented in a 3500L new oak foudre. Half was then matured for a year in the same foudre, the remainder into used French oak puncheons. There's so much restraint and purity of fruit across the YY range this vintage, Underhill is no different. Perfumed, savoury, delicate yet complex, pure and long. Lacy tannins and fine acidity work across a lithe palate." 96 Points - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion (2021).
