Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 1 2018

Yarra Yering is one of the Yarra Valley’s most iconic and historic wineries, established in 1969 by Dr. Bailey Carrodus, a pioneer who helped revive winemaking in the region. Known for its elegant, age-worthy wines, Yarra Yering quickly earned a reputation for excellence, with its first commercial vintage released in 1973.

Since 2013 the winery is led by acclaimed winemaker Sarah Crowe, whose focus on site expression and sustainable practices has earned widespread recognition, including multiple Winemaker of the Year awards. Her second ‘Winemaker of the Year” accolade was in 2021, presented by Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine. The same year Yarra Yering won the 2022 James Halliday Winery of the Year & Wine of The Year, the first time a winery has ever won 2 major accolades in the one year.

The Yarra Yering Dry Red No.1 is primarily a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by small portions of Malbec and Petit Verdot sourced from a prestigious site in the Yarra Valley. 55/28/12/5% cabernet sauvignon/merlot/malbec/petit verdot.

Tasting Notes

"55% cabernet sauvignon, 28% merlot, 12% malbec, 5% petit verdot. Essence of blackcurrant with a boysenberried freshness, almost into forest berry territory, with polished cedar wood oak and drifts of fragrant herbs. Pure, complete, svelte; all these words apply. Has a long run ahead of it." 96 Points - Halliday Wine Companion, Campbell Mattinson (2021).
