Yalumba The Menzies Museum Release Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Yalumba The Menzies Museum Release Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Yalumba is Australia's oldest family-owned winery, established in 1849 by British brewer Samuel Smith in Angaston, Barossa Valley. The name "Yalumba" is derived from an Indigenous Australian word meaning "all the land around," reflecting the winery's deep connection to its surroundings. Over six generations, Yalumba has remained independent, with a commitment to producing wines that showcase the best of the Barossa.
Since 1987, the Hill-Smith family have purchased fruit from this vineyard and in 1992 counted themselves amongst those fortunate enough to own a vineyard upon the famousÂ
terra rossa soil over limestone. Experimentation, innovation, minimalist intervention and small batch winemaking has resulted in The Menzies’ reputation as a wine of longevity,Â
elegance and structure.Â
Matured for 21 months in 30% new French and Hungarian hogsheads and French barriques, balance in 1 year and older American, French and Hungarian hogsheads and barriques.
Tasting Notes
"A classy Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon museum offering, made by Peter Gambetta, from the strong 2015 vintage. There's a solid pedigree of longevity with The Menzies and this release is beginning to show that potential. Brightly coloured with pure blackberry, blood plum and blackcurrant fruits, there's still some primary exuberance to the fruit profile; it seems youthful. There's hints of mixed spice, a light shading of tobacco and dark chocolatey things and a passing glance of mint. The tannins are compact and powdery and there is a long, elegant finish that shows excellent sustain and harmony."Â 96 Points - Halliday Wine Companion, Dave Brookes (2025).
