Munda Wurundjeri Country Pinot Noir 2023
Munda Wurundjeri Country Pinot Noir 2023
Munda Wines was founded by Pauly Vandenbergh and Damien Smith with a vision to present Australian wine through a different lens, one that honours the deep history of the land and its First Nations people.
Their philosophy is to spark conversation, one glass at a time, by expressing the unique munda (land/terroir) of exceptional vineyard sites across Australia. Each wine acknowledges and celebrates the Aboriginal Countries it comes from, such as Kaurna, Ngadjuri, and Peramangk, recognising their cultural and historical significance.
Munda Wines focuses on varieties that are well-suited to their environment, promoting sustainability and harmony with the land. Proudly Supply Nation registered, the winery is a majority Indigenous-owned business dedicated to supporting and growing the Indigenous business community.
In the winery, the approach is minimal intervention, allowing each munda to speak clearly. Wines are matured in second and third-use oak to preserve purity, and bottled relatively early to capture freshness, energy, and brightness.
80% lower Yarra of red-brown clay gives a fuller fruit profile melded with 20% upper Yarra from deep red volcanic soils and granite giving perfume and lift. 10 months in French oak, 20% new, red cherry and earthy spice, cardamon and white pepper. A touch of earthy forest floor, it has perfect medium weight and refreshing acidity.
