Grosset Gaia 2019

Grosset is a distinguished winery located in Auburn, at the southern tip of the Clare Valley, South Australia. Established in 1981 by Jeffrey Grosset, the winery is renowned for producing exceptional Riesling and Cabernet blend wines that authentically reflect the region's unique terroir. They have four estate-owned, certified organic and biodynamic (ACO) vineyards and producing wines that consistently receive high praise from critics and wine enthusiasts alike.

Crafted from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc grapes, this wine production amounts to 5000 bottles. This 2ha Vineyard planted in 1986 at an elevation of 560 metres, it is the highest vineyard in the Clare Valley. Close-planted at 3000 vines per hectare, the yield is about two kilograms per vine, less than two bottles of wine.

The wine shows rich blackcurrant, blackberry, cassis and violet aromas with hints of mint and dried herbs. It's full-bodied, fine tannins, and a long, mineral finish. Elegant and great structured with great aging potential.

Tasting Note

"Cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. 5000 bottles made. Elegant. This has grunt and low-down power, but the engine is built into a chassis of fine fruit and supple tannins. The acidity acts as the titanium bolt that holds it together, creating a strengthening framework of life and finesse. Blackberries, cassis, licorice, mulberry and raw cocoa, with nori, pink peppercorns and pastrami, blood plum, kelp and brine. Marvellous." 97 Points - Halliday Wine Companion, Erin Larkin (2022).
