Frankland Estate Smith Cullam Riesling 2021

Frankland Estate Smith Cullam Riesling 2021

This wine exemplifies supreme balance, characterized by its silky and lush texture due to the residual sugar, as it follows the house's off-dry style. It is supported by a linear, steel-like acidity that extends seemingly endlessly, contributing to its remarkable length of flavor and zen-like focus. The aromatic profile includes white flowers, black tea, nashi pear skin, mandarin pith, lemon zest, nutmeg, oud, and tea tree, creating a complex and captivating experience. For those fortunate enough to taste an older bottle, the intricate blend of these characters becomes even more apparent and impressive. The cool, occasionally wet vintage has imbued this wine with exceptional detail and poise, making it truly spectacular.

This notable operation is located on a large sheep property established by Barrie Smith and Judi Cullam. Since 1988, the vineyard has experienced continuous growth. A key highlight has been the introduction of a variety of single-vineyard Rieslings, particularly from the organically grown Isolation Ridge Vineyard. Frankland Estate is now expertly managed by second-generation siblings Hunter and Elizabeth Smith, with Elizabeth's husband, Brian Kent, leading the winemaking efforts for over a decade.
