Alkina was established in 2015 when Argentinian vintner Alejandro Bulgheroni purchased a 60-hectare farm near Greenock in the North Western corner of Barossa Valley. 

With 70-year-old vine and 170-year-old stone buildings in need of repair. Amelia Nolan was tasked with bringing new life into the old bones of the farm. With the guidance of acclaimed winemaker Alberto Antonini, terroir expert Pedro Parra and a strong local team, Alkina is now a magical place with terroir winegrowing and regenerative farming at its heart.

Polygon No. 3 is just 0.274 hectares in size and contains approximately 200 vines. Working with terroir specialist, Pedro Parra, we identified this polygon to be unique in its limestone content. Below a very narrow band of topsoil lies a thick band of sedimentary limestone studded with fractured schist. Once you hit the rock, there is no clay present. Southern Cross certified organic and biodynamic.

1300kg of Polygon 3 fruit was handpicked and delivered to the winery on the 15th of March. Fermented naturally in concrete tulip with 80% whole bunches and the rest de-stemmed. P3 spent a total of 30 days on skins before basket pressing and maturation in one 700L Nomblot concrete egg until bottling in February 2024.

"The cool year takes the pretty floral aromatics to even greater heights – P3 in all its ethereal glory. Notes of potpourri, orange blossom and spice frame the red fruit core of crunchy cranberry and raspberry. A wine of light brush strokes over an elegant frame. There’s real tension on the palate as the vibrant fruit, cool natural acid and powdery mouth-coating tannins carry this medium-bodied Grenache through to a long finish." Alkina
