Penfolds St. Henri Shiraz 2020

Penfolds St. Henri Shiraz 2020
Founded in 1844 in South Australia, Penfolds is one of the world’s most iconic and celebrated wine producers. Blending tradition with innovation, Penfolds has crafted some of the most collectible and distinguished wines.
St Henri is a classic and distinctive expression of Shiraz, offering a unique alternative to Grange within the Penfolds portfolio. Unlike many premium Australian reds, it is notable for its complete absence of new oak influence. First released in the early 1950s, with the first commercial vintage in 1957, St Henri experienced a resurgence in the 1990s as wine lovers came to appreciate its elegant and individual style.
Rich and plush in its youth, St Henri evolves beautifully over time, developing earthy, mocha-like complexity. Matured in large, seasoned oak vats that contribute minimal flavour, the wine stays focused on expressing pure Shiraz character, though a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon may occasionally be included. Peak drinking now - 2050.
Winemaker Notes
True to form, the palate is quite savoury. Japanese nori paper and olive brine offer a very morish umami nuance. Fresh blueberry and mulberry leaf anchor the core of the mid-palate. Exotic spices adding intrigue, Alleppey turmeric, toasted cumin, pimento. The tannins are very tactile, comparable to Dutch cocoa. A classic St Henri that will reward extended time in the cellar.
