Founded in 1844 in South Australia, Penfolds is one of the world’s most iconic and celebrated wine producers. Blending tradition with innovation, Penfolds has crafted some of the most collectible and distinguished wines. 

The renowned multiregional blend of 53% cabernet sauvignon and 47% shiraz undergoes maturation in American oak (37% new) for 12 months. It presents densely packed black and dark berry fruits complemented by hints of herbs, roasting meats, licorice, dark chocolate, earth, and oak spice. While it follows some of its more plush and elegant predecessors, the 389 release appeared slightly chewy and sinewy in comparison. The finish reveals robust berry fruits, oolong tea notes, and a pronounced creaminess from the American oak. Although it may age well, it was not particularly expressive in this tasting.
